Packwood Acorns Explore ‘Ice World’ Habitats

This term the Acorns are learning about ‘Ice Worlds’.  The focus for the first part of this term is all about identifying the many different species of penguins.  It won’t be long before they will be able to name at least a dozen penguins such as: Chinstrap, Adelie, Galapagos, Humboldt, Macaroni and Rockhopper to name but a few.

Reception and Year 1 have been making nests for their Emperor penguin in Forest School.  They have had to think about the differences between the Antarctic environment and the Forest School environment and which one is the best suited for the Emperor penguin.

Year 2 are looking at the different parts of a penguin and the adaptations that enable the penguin to survive in their ice world habitat. Year 2 are also learning their poems, choosing their books and preparing their talks for their English Speaking Board exams on 2nd February. They each have to recite a poem, choose a reading book and read an extract from that book as well as give a talk on something that interests them. They then answer questions from the other children on their talks. This is a fantastic experience helping the children to develop their communication and presentation skills, with their confidence growing along the way.
