Packwood wicket keeper catching ball

David English / Bunbury Cup Cricket

On Friday 26th April, the Packwood U13 A cricket team travelled to Bromsgrove to play in the David English/Bunbury Cup national rounds. Packwood representing Shropshire, after their success as U12s in the county rounds last year, were up against the Worcestershire winners, Bromsgrove.

Packwood won the toss and captain Adam M put Bromsgrove in to bat. With the format of the game 30 overs, Bromsgrove got off to a promising start. However, Packwood began to pick up wickets, a memorable catch in the slips from Lucas M off the bowling of Adam M removed Bromsgrove’s dangerous opener, who was nearing his 50. Packwood managed to bowl Bromsgrove out for 141 off 21 overs.

In reply, the Packwood top order struggled to get a foot hold, Dylan B played his way to 30 but some early season shot play meant wickets continued to tumble. Ruben P and Harry W saw off the last over with Packwood batting out their 30 overs, but posting a score that was 40 runs short.

Congratulations to Bromsgrove, who go on to the next round and well done to the Packwood boys, who with a little more consistency and confidence could have taken the win.
