Boarders’ Trip to watch Liverpool Women’s Team

The girl boarders joined Mr and Mrs Rigby for a trip to Prenton Park, home of the Liverpool Women’s team. Liverpool were playing Reading.  The girls enjoyed a pre-match lunch of pizza on the bus.  With You’ll Never Walk Alone ringing around the stadium, the match kicked off and although no goals were scored in the first half it was an exciting game of football nevertheless.

Not everyone in the Packwood group supported Liverpool, one member of the group preferred the team in blue!  Another member of the group wasn’t sure why the team in red wasn’t Manchester United!  Someone else couldn’t understand why you wouldn’t just support the team that was winning.  Mrs Rigby had to do a lot of explaining as to why it was important they all supported Liverpool!

Once the second half kicked off, it wasn’t long until Missy Bo Kearns scored a great goal which everyone enjoyed, apart from the member of the group supporting the team in blue.  The first goal was quickly followed by a second.  Liverpool managed to keep a clean sheet and came out winners 2-0.  After the match the girls were able to have photos taken with the manager, Matt Beard, the captain Taylor Hinds and Missy Bo Kearns.  A couple of the girls also had a chat with one of the LFC team about promoting girls’ football in school.

During the walk back to the minibus, the eagle-eyed Mrs Rigby spotted the player of the match, Fuka Nagano, coming out of the stadium. She kindly came over to talk to and have her photograph taken with one of the group.  Everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable match and Mr and Mrs Rigby were entertained by the girls’ singing on the journey home.
