Year 5s explore Hinduism

One of the most colourful events in the Packwood calendar took place this morning when the Year 5s dressed up and decorated their faces for a Hindu workshop.

The children are studying Hinduism in RS this term and today’s event gave them a fantastic insight into the religion. Krishna Dasi, the workshop leader, burnt sandalwood incense to add to the atmosphere as she taught the children how to put on saris and turbans.

They dressed up as the Trimurti and their goddesses and acted out the story of Rama and Sita, decorated their faces with bindis and flower designs, and thought about reincarnation and meditation. They listened to Indian music and enjoyed trying out traditional Hindu dancing with sticks.

Head of RS, Mrs Edwards, commented, “We have been running the Hindu morning for several years now and the children always enjoy the experience. It is not only great fun but also has the invaluable added benefit of cementing and extending their classroom learning.”
