There was a busy weekend of competition for five members of Packwood’s Fencing team who represented the school and the West Midlands Region at the National Individual Epee Championships in Sheffield over the early May Bank Holiday.
It is a big step up to national level and competition was tough in both the Under 12 and Under 14 age groups. Qualifying in itself is an achievement and all acquitted themselves well with the standout performance coming from Finn B in the Under 12 Boys’ group. Finn battled his way through to the last 32 alongside teammate Casper B. Unfortunately Casper was edged out at this stage but Finn won a place in the last 16 and then progressed again, taking himself through to the last eight. Ultimately, Finn finished the day with a quarter-finalists medal, building on what has already been a hugely successful year.
Packwood Fencing Club has had a busy schedule of events recently with the Warwick Epee Competition at which both Casper B and Honor B were in the medals (Bronze and Silver respectively). The teams also had a good win in the match against Ellesmere College at the end of last month and, later in the term, the hotly anticipated, annual Duel in the Sun knockout competition will take place at school.
