Packwood chorister in National Choir

Following nationwide auditions at the end of last year, talented Packwood chorister, Keith A, has won a place in the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. Competition for places is strong and those who make the grade must demonstrate outstanding ability and potential.

Keith was one of a small group of Packwood pupils who travelled to London last June to take part in an event organised by the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA), the ‘Big Boarding Sing’. Also attending on that occasion was the Director of the National Youth Choir who was so impressed with Keith that he asked him to audition.

The audition took place in Shrewsbury in late autumn after a lot of hard work in music lessons and choir practices back at school. Keith explains, “I must say a huge thank you to my singing teacher, Mr Boutwood, who helped prepare me for the audition. I couldn’t have done it without him and I was really pleased to hear just before we broke up for Christmas that I had been awarded a place.”

Rehearsals take place during school holidays at residential training sessions and Keith is looking forward to attending his first one in April. He continues, “Last year the National Youth Choir performed in front of the Queen and I am so excited that I will get the chance to sing in the Royal Albert Hall.”
