Packwood Boys set up charitable venture to counter loneliness

Packwood Boys Ben (Year 5), Tom (O.P.) and Johnnie (Year 7) have used the extra time through the recent lockdown to think of others, setting up their own helpline to reach out to the elderly.

The boys had the idea from talking to their own grandparents over the phone and realising that not all others had the opportunity to do the same. CheerfulChat was then set up from their kitchen table. Their website allows anyone elderly feeling lonely to register their interest online and then be called by one of the boys.

The initiative has been successful so far and has attracted plenty of local press interest.

The boys’ father Charlie, who has overseen the project, asks: “Can you think of someone who would appreciate a call from Cheerful Chat – maybe an older person who lives on their own in your street or in your village? If so – please pass on their details to Johnnie or Ben and they can add them to their list.”
