Girls’ cricket is the growing sport at Packwood with more and more games sessions devoted to it for all age groups. Inspired by the school’s success in the Lady Taverners Indoor Cricket Competition, including a national runners-up spot in 2016, it now rivals rounders as the main summer sport for girls.
Yesterday, the Under 11A team travelled to Terra Nova to compete in their first ever cricket tournament and had a superb afternoon, winning every game.
Miss Lowe and Miss Jones, who coach the team, report, “Captain Millie J led by example and we were impressed by the whole team’s positive attitude. The girls played well together, supported each other and put the skills and tactics they had learned in training into practice very effectively.”
Individual highlights include four fours in a row from Honor B and her partner Meg G, skilful catches by Bella T and Kiko M, crucial on the boundary stops by Millie P and great bowling from Poppy B and Claudia B who were both on target with the ball and took wickets.
Miss Lowe added, “I look forward to seeing the continued progress of this young team and of all the girl cricketers at Packwood – I have no doubt that more triumphs lie ahead.
“Watch out boys – girls’ cricket is coming for you!”
