Around 70 children, virtually every junior pupil in the school, took part in yesterday’s Junior Concert. This is an annual event and is a great opportunity for younger children of all ages and abilities to perform in public, either alone or with a choir or ensemble.
The concert began with a very enthusiastic performance of two songs by the Junior Choir, including one in two parts, followed by a cheerful and competent rendition of ‘Always look on the bright side of life’, played by Freddie B on the trumpet. The programme then continued with a variety of soloists and ensembles. Some children were performing after only a few lessons; others were more experienced and had played on many occasions. Several children sang, both alone and in small groups, and instrumental solos included euphonium, violin, clarinet, saxophone, violin, cello and a piano duet (Jessie D and Livia H). Daniel G’s beautiful cello solo and Finn B’s energetic drum kit piece, both from their Grade 6 exam pieces, were followed by the Junior Chamber Choir and Brass Ensemble, creating a strong end to a very successful concert.
Every child tried their best, performed confidently and played and sang very well so it would be impossible to single out any particular performances, but it would be fair to say that the future of Packwood music looks very promising. Well done to all involved!
