Glorious sunny weather yesterday greeted two teams of intrepid cricketers at the idyllic Cherry Hill cricket ground near Malpas. Old Packwoodians who left the school before 2000 took on a side comprised of those who were 21st century leavers.
The youngsters won the toss and decided to field. Opener Richard Legget hit an impressive 73 (which, incidentally, was his school number when he was a boy at Packwood) and his teammates built upon this foundation to reach 175 off their 25 overs. The millennials made a spirted effort in reply, but were skittled out for 136; so the older generation were victorious.
A large crowd of spectators enjoyed the action and tucked in to a delicious lunch and tea. Many thanks to the Clarke family for hosting this match; the players, some of whom had travelled a considerable distance to be there; the umpires; Maynards for providing lunch and Mrs Bourne for producing one of her legendary match teas. A good time was had by all!
