Packwood’s stunning run of success in the Lady Taverners Indoor Cricket Tournament continues after another winning performance in yesterday’s district round of the 2018 competition.
Since first entering five years ago, Packwood’s girl cricketers have an impressive record in the tournament with five out of five wins in the district round, three out of four county crowns and Midlands and Wales regional titles, and ultimately national runners-up spot at the finals at Lord’s in 2016.
Director of Sport, Mr Phillips, remarked, “With standards improving year on year, competition is tough even at these early stages and yesterday’s matches were tightly contested.”
The girls beat local rivals Moreton Hall by 29 runs and Ellesmere College by a slender 14 runs. Packwood’s consistent batting performance was key to success. Genevieve B was top scorer with a total tally of 50 runs for the day and she bowled superbly too, taking two wickets in the Ellesmere match. Millie J made a vital contribution with the ball in the match against Moreton Hall, picking up two important wickets.
Mr Phillips continued, “Given, the limited number of practice sessions the girls have been able to fit in during what has been a very busy first half of term, their wins yesterday were all the more remarkable. I am optimistic that their disciplined and skilful performance will ensure continued progress in the competition at the Shropshire county finals in March.”
