Packwood’s Under 11 girls, under the guidance of new coach Mr Charles, had a winning start to their season in the Prep School Lacrosse Tournament at Moreton Hall on Sunday.
The girls’ opponents included their hosts and teams from Haberdashers’ Monmouth and Malvern St James. All three games were hard fought and closely contested, but each time the girls were able to hold their lead and secure the win.
Their first match against Moreton Hall was a very tight contest. The girls played together well and produced a great team effort to hold on for a 3-2 win. Individual flair from Ella C and Kiko M was key in the game against Malvern St James where the final score was 1-0 to Packwood. Ella put immense pressure on the opposition defence and all those practice drills on picking up ground balls paid off for Kiko who won the ball every time. There was another superb team performance in the final game when the girls rounded of their day with a 2-0 victory against Haberdashers’ Monmouth.
Mr Charles, praised the girls’ team play and determination, “I was delighted with the team’s performance, particularly with the fact that every player was involved. The girls showed real maturity in their play – passing at the right time and sharing the ball around.
“Going into the final game, they knew they had to win to claim overall victory and their desire to do so pushed them to excel. It was a fantastic start to the term and will give them confidence for the rest of the season.”
